Data Analytics Advanced Diploma - Undergraduate Year 2

The Data Analytics course is an advanced diploma that enables people with an existing foundation in data analytics to build to both extend their knowledge and gain a more in-depth understanding of the key areas of data analytics. You will add the R programming language to your existing knowledge of Python or other languages, develop your statistics ability and look more deeply into predictive modeling and machine learning. Finally, you will be introduced to business concepts and how technology, big data and data science are having a significant impact on business around the world.

Course Units

The R programming language was specifically developed for statistical analysis and is one of the most in demand skills in data analytics and data science.  In this unit you will be introduced to R through core exploratory data analysis tasks including descriptive statistics, data management and data visualisation.  You will then extend this knowledge by exploring more advanced R libraries and packages including the apply family of functions, dplyr and tidyverse packages.

A strong understanding of statistical concepts is perhaps the most important skill for data analytics professionals. In this unit you will use R to strengthen and extend your knowledge of statistical inference beyond basic hypothesis testing, parametric tests and analysis of variance to include non-parametric testing and multi-way analysis of variance

In this unit you will firstly review simple and multiple linear regression methods with R. You will then move on to predictive modelling with categorical binary variables using R and Python programming, and apply binary logistic and multinomial regression models to explore examples from domains such as marketing, healthcare and risk management.

Time series analysis is a statistical technique to analyze the pattern of data points taken over time to forecast the future. Time series is used in a wide range of domains and in this unit you will use R and Python functions and libraries to learn how to predict stock price movements, GDP and inflation for example.

In this unit you will review your understanding of machine learning concepts and algorithms before exploring these in more depth while using both Python and R programming.  You will also compare and contrast ML techniques with classical predictive modelling methods and learn to choose appropriate methods to use in different contexts. Finally you will be introduced to artificial intelligence through Natural Language Processing and gain an understanding of the relationship between machine learning and AI

Data Analytics are increasingly at the core of business strategy and decision making and it is important for data analysts to have a good understanding of the context and application of their work in real world contexts.  In this unit you will be introduced to concepts in strategy, digital transformation and business ethics, with particular emphasis on how data, data science and artificial intelligence have an impact on these areas of business. In doing so, you will examine a range of case studies where business has been significantly impacted by this.
